This is my absolute favorite guacamole recipe. It’s a quick, easy, and undeniably fresh dip that’s always a crowd-pleaser. With just a handful of simple ingredients, you can make something truly special.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • Zest and juice of 2 limes
  • 1 small jalapeño, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 12 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep: Finely dice your red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro. If using tomatoes, seed them first, then dice.
  2. Mash: In a large bowl, scoop the avocado flesh and add the lime zest and juice, salt, and cumin (if using). Mash with a fork until it’s chunky but has some creamy parts.
  3. Combine: Gently fold in the red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and tomatoes (if using) until everything is just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
  4. Taste and Serve: Give it a taste. Adjust the salt or lime juice as needed. Serve immediately with your favorite chips or veggies.

Notes

Serving Suggestions: This guac is perfect with tortilla chips, on tacos or burritos, or as a side for grilled meat.

Tips & Tricks: The key to a great guac is ripe avocados. They should give a little when you press on them. For less heat, remove the seeds and white membrane from the jalapeño.

Storage: Guacamole is best fresh. If you have leftovers, put it in an airtight container and press a layer of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guac. This keeps the air out and helps prevent browning. Store in the fridge for up to one day.
