This is the perfect dessert for a warm day. It’s simple, elegant, and packed with flavor. Fresh strawberries are layered with a rich, tangy cream sauce for a treat that feels both decadent and light. This recipe is a nod to the classic street vendor version—it’s quick, easy, and absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb strawberries, fresh and ripe
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup Mexican crema
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries: Gently wash the strawberries and pat them completely dry with paper towels. Remove the green tops and slice the strawberries into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Make the Cream: In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, Mexican crema, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and silky.
  3. Layer and Assemble: In clear cups or glasses, create alternating layers. Start with a spoonful of cream, then add a layer of strawberries. Repeat until the cups are full.
  4. Chill and Serve: Place the assembled cups in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This chilling time helps the flavors meld together perfectly.

Notes

  • Serving Suggestions: You can serve the Fresas con Crema family-style in one large bowl. For a fancier touch, top individual servings with a sprig of mint, a sprinkle of granola, or crushed pistachios.
  • Tips & Tricks: Use cold ingredients straight from the fridge for the best results. For a less sweet version, use a bit less condensed milk. Taste as you go!
  • Substitutions: If you can’t find Mexican crema, a great substitute is to mix ¾ cup of heavy cream with ¼ cup of sour cream.
  • Storage: This dessert is best enjoyed fresh. If you have leftovers, cover them and store them in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. I don’t recommend freezing it, as the texture of the fruit and cream will be ruined.
